Windows XP Home Edition Reinstall

Chris

Here's my problem - I chose to do a reinstall of Windows XP from a setup disk
i downloaded - same edition as was previously installed. Prior to doing so I
retrieved the license key for my preinstalled version of Windows XP to use
when i had reinstalled. I have now got to the stage where i need to enter the
license key and it refuses this - i absolutely refuse to go out and buy
another copy of Windows XP Home because i have already paid for this and 2
lots of Windows Vista, is there any way to get MSFT to renew my license key?

If you had an OEM edition of win installed I believe you will find the key
provided is for the OEM edition as supplied by your PC manufacturer.
Where did you download winxp from?

Where did you "download" the setup disk from?

Presumably he downloaded this from his MSDN or Technet subscription
download area, he has to get the key from the same site.

He downloaded it from MSDN, I called the Microsoft Support Line today and got
a number for Activations department and so hopefully will get a renewed
license key from them, as i think my problem is just from the fact that the
license key is one use only after activating your product with Microsoft.

If Windows XP originally came preinstalled on a computer, it is
highly likely it is an OEM version. A OEM product key will not
work with a MSDN CD.

Well by contacting MSFT, what i'm hoping is that they'll either give me a new
CD key for Home Edition or will give me a source to download an OEM version
to use my existing CD key with.... the guy who i spoke to earlier fully
understood it was an OEM version loaded by the original supplier of the PC,
and that i was using a Windows Home Edition setup disk so as he has logged
the incident i shouldnt have to explain again and they can help me instantly.
fingers crossed.
