Windows XP Search Issue

Guest

I have experienced a problem when performing searches.

I have a dial-up internet connection and when I do a
search on my hard drive for a file, the computer dials
out. If I cancel the dial up, then the search continues
with no problems.

Another issue is the computer is on a network and the
computer dials up when ever a search is performed on any
of the newwork computers running XP.

My question is....

Is there a way to disable the web search so the search
does not start the dialer? If so, please explain the
method.

Hi Peter,

Search Assistant will try to connect to http://sa.windows.com This is done
to check for updates to its features, tips, wording and etc. Not allowing
access can cause its own set of problems, usually a "A file that is
required........." error message.

You can stop the internet access by changing the search behavior to Classic
Search.

Old Style Search Engine On/Off (Line 49)

Or...

Use TweakUI, Explorer Section to set Classic Search:

Search Companion files may be damaged if you have Search Companion open when
you connect to certain Internet Service Providers.
