Windows XP Restore

Hi, I have a problem with my system whereby I cannot do a
system restore. I did manage to pick up some Trojan
viruses despite having the latest version of Norton
antivirus and this may have something to do with the
problem. I know the viruses are there but Norton is
unable to get rid of them. Begs the question what is the
point in having it.

Anyway, I tried to overcome it by doing a system restore
but no matter what restore point I pick, the system fails
to restore properly.

Any ideas??
