Windows XP Pro Upgrade

J

John

I recently reformatted my hard drive (using my Dell
reinstallation cd) and reloaded Windows XP Home Edition
onto my Dimension 2300. I then upgraded to Windows XP
Pro. Now, when I boot my computer, it asks me to select
either Windows XP Pro or Windows XP Home. I have a
Seagate Barracuda 40 gb hard drive with a single
partition. Why is this happening and how can I get it to
stop? I also posted this at the Dell forum.

Thanks

Hi John,

Start/run C:\boot.ini

Remove the unwanted reference line from the [operating systems] section

if the OP has a choice of OS's at boot, doesn't that indicate he installed
Pro on a new partition?

Hi Gordon,

Could've installed it to a new folder on the same partition as well - only
the OP knows what he/she did.

True......but just modifying the boot.ini file ain't going to get rid of the
second installation.....

Hi,

No, but it will get rid of the dual boot prompt. They may in fact have
upgraded, and boot.ini did not update properly. If this is the case, this is
all they need to do. Only the OP can tell us for sure what they have, we'll
just have to wait and see.......
