In case you still do not understand that Microsoft has limited XP Pro
(32bit) to 4 GB RAM usage. All the other RAM is completely ignored.
In order to have XP tuse the complete 32GBs of RAM, it has been
suggested that you need to look at XP 64Bit. However, XP 64bit is an
OEM product only (sold with new qualifing hardware) and must be used
with a 64bit processor.

I am not sure if there exists a RAM limit in Vista.

Why do you say Microsoft has limited XP Pro to 4 GB? That is a hardware
limitation not Microsoft limitation. 32 address bits can only address 4GB .
I.E. with 32 zeros or ones (binary) there are only 4GB of combinations.

It isn't a hardware limitation, it is a limitation of the operating
system. The Z series that the OP has can handle up to 32GB RAM, he
needs an OS that can handle that much RAM. The OP should be using
Enterprise Server or better to handle that much RAM.

No, not correct. Microsoft hasn't done it. The hardware design is such
that no 32-bit operating system can use more than 4GB. Moreover
because the limitation is to a 4GB address space, and since installed
hardware devices use some of that address space, the full 4GB of RAM
can never be used. Exactly how much can be used varies, depending on
your hardware configuration, but it is typically around 3.1GB.

All the other RAM is completely ignored.

Of course. There is always a limit. 32-bit Vista has the same 4GB
(actually around 3.1GB) limit as does XP, and 64-bit Vista has an
enormous limit--2^64 bytes.
