Windows XP pro Domain Basics

I'm thinking about changing my home network to be domain based. The problem is, i am unaware of pre-req's and details. I may be wasting my breath here, but could anyone shed some light on setting up a network, using the domain method on win xp pro? Thanks!
 
What are your plans for a domain at home? In other words, what do you want
to accomplish that you cannot perform with your current home network?

XP Pro can join a domain but cannot create and manage one. You would need
a server version of Windows to create a domain. This is unlikely to be
worth the extra investment for a home network.

A domain will cost more money (to buy a server OS to be the PDC), and it will
take more time (for a typical home) to administer.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, ...
