Windows XP Pro - Dial-up / modem problem

Dave

I have just installed a copy of Windows XP Pro (upgrade
version) on a second hand computer (IBM 600x ThinkPad).
When I try to create a new connection using the 'New
Connection Wizard' I experience the following.

Step 1) New Connection Wizard - Getting Ready;
Select the 'Set up my connection manually' radio button

**My Problem"

Only the 'Connect using broadband connection that is
always on' is available. The radio buttons for 'Connect
using a dial-up modem' and 'Connect using a broadband
connection that requires a user name and password' are
visible but not enabled.

The computer was given to me with a '3com Megahertz
10/100 LAN Cardbus' modem installed which only had a
network connection. I have subsequently installed a '3com
Megahertz 10/100 LAN + 56K modem' with both network and
phone connections. I have checked the 'Device Status' and
it indicates "This device is working properly".

There is an internal modem in the computer (I checked!)
however on the 'Phone and Modem Options' it show
the 'ThinkPad Modem' as "Not present"!?

I think this computer was configured to only work with a
LAN/DSL connection but I don't know how to change the
setting to work with a dial-up.

I need help.

Using Registry Editor for changing settings in your
system registry, which contains information about how
your computer runs. type regedit in run dialog box. Open
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMa
n\PPP\EAP key and delete 25 and 26 subreg. Then restart
and set your connection again.

good luck
