I hope someone here can help. My laptop has windows xp home edition. It
doesnt power down after saving the settings...can anyone tell me why. I've
heard a lot about Roxio Easy CD creator but i've since removed that program,
but the problem is still there....i've also seen places recommending
upgrading to service pack 1 or 2..i've downloaded service pack 2, but when
i've gone to install it ...it asks me then to reboot..but as my computer
doesnt shutdown properly or reboot properly..when i do get my computer back
on the instructions to install are still there......can anyone
help...pllleeeaaasssee!!!!!

Try running the User Profile Hive cleanup tool, UPHclean from Microsoft.
Just search for it on the site. You probably have something not closing
down all the way at shut down/restart; that should fix it.

Try unplugging all the devices that are attached to your computer, especially
USB devices. If you can get your computer to shut down properly without
anything attached, then I would install SP2 immediately, and then re-plug the
devices in one at a time (shutting down between plug-ins). If the problem
comes back, then you know which device is causing it.

Also, using the User Hive Profile Cleanup Tool is a good idea, and may work.
It will log any problems in your Event Log, so you can see what's causing
the problem, and you can try to get an update for that software or hardware.

Best Wishes,
Kurosh
