We are having a problem on an older computer with Windows XP loading. The
computer is an AMD athlon 1.0ghz processor with 256mb ram, an ATI graphics
card, a MSI motherboard, A WD 20 gb hdd, and a modem and a network card.
Sorry I do not have more specific info, I would copy over the everest info
but have not been able to transfer it yet. What happens is windows will load
to the screen where you can select safe mode or boot in regular mode,
anything you pick the computer reboots. So, we thought it might be windows
and we backed up our files and reformatted the hard drive and after
installtion the windows logo would pop up like it was loading for the first
time and then nothing. So, we tried a backup hard drive, formatted it, and
it did the same thing. So, we have rulled out a porblem in Windows and a
problem with the hard drive. Doing some checks on the system everything
seems to be alright, the ram seems ok and so do the processor and
motherboard. What do you think it could be?

Thank you,

Lowcam

Hello,

I also had a problem with an instable computer with alike hardware. I had an
AthlonXP CPU on a MSI K7T-Pro2 Motherboard, after some unsuccessful tries to
solve this problem I ended up to solder the capacitors that stabilise the
voltage. But I cannot guarantee you that you have the same problem.

My PC powered down about 45 seconds after starting, if you search the MSI
website you possibly find more help on hardware errors like this.

Sounds like a memory issue. Either loose, intermittent or defective ram.
