Windows XP Login (New Mail Message)

John

At the Windows XP Login Screen it says 1 New Mail Message.
1) No Outlook Accounts Set Up (and No emails in any
folders)
2) Windows Messenger (Is not Enabled, Does not load with
windows and Auto-Login for it is Disabled)
3) MSN Messenger (Enabled, Loads With Windows but Auto-
Login is disabled)
I have checked the Hotmail Inbox and it is empty.

Anyone know what else it could be?

Hello,

On Microsoft Word, I have accidently cut a whole chapter of my book, hoping
to paste it back in place somewhere else. But Word closed down, and the piece
is lost. The document saved the change and I cannot recover it. I have
tried using the Systems Recovery tool, but there is no recent date to recover
from. I have searched all files and the unmodified document is unavailable
anywhere.

If anyone has time for this one, you'd be making my day.

Thanks,

Steve.

Hello John,

This seems to be one of those little annoyances which a lot of people are
having. You can remove the notification via a registry edit but I found it a
lotr easier to download Tweak UI from Microsoft (a very small program).

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Once installed, open and expand 'Logon', click on 'Unread Mail' and uncheck
'Show unread mail on welcome screen' then 'Apply' and exit

Easier and safer than doing a regedit.
Hope this helps.
BTW...Why someone else is carrying on a totally different topic under your
post , I've no idea!

Colin.

I don't know what caused it, but I know how to fix it. Run regedit, go to
MyComputer \ HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \
CurrentVersion \ UnreadMail \ (email address). Set MessageCount to 0.

Not unless you have been making daily backups. If you are writing a book,
I'd highly recommend you keep a backup copy of your work on some other drive
or medium (i.e. CDR).

When cutting text, there is no change recorded to the original file
until a save or save-as is done. Additionally, Word keeps a working
copy of the file on disk with a name composed of alphanumerics with a
"~" as the first character. So unless you specifically did a save or
save-as on the original file after the cut, the original data should
still be there in the original file. As a possible resolution, look for
any file with a "~" in the document directory and try to open it from
within Word's File/Open menu (select All files as the file type).

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Repair page includes Repair Unread mail count, and its Logon -
Unread Mail has a check box where you can turn the message off entirely
