My Windows XP Dell Desktop Starts up and then comes up with the error that the .config file is damaged or corrupted. It asks me to repair it using the install CD and the Repair Console, when I boot from the CD and press R for the Repair Console, i just get a command prompt.

Any ideas or will i have to do a clean install which means formatting my drive?

Thanks

David

Yep, the "command prompt" is very, err, sparse. You have a "real" XP CD ? unusual for Dell. ;)

Here is how Microsoft suggest you to "repair" that problem ...

... and I'll tell you now, you'll be damned lucky if it works.

You may want to do a "dirty" re-install instead, if you have a real copy of XP.
