Windows XP issues from DSL

I installed verizon DSL on my computer this weekend and my computer is
now garbage. It is a Dell Laptop with windows XP and it worked fine
prior to installation of the CD for Verizon DSL. The DSL service
works, but it is slower than dial up and often times freezes up. Now
my computer all together is extremely slow, the hard drive is
constantly spinning at full force, and I get constant windows error
messages such as for example, programxyz.exe has encountered a problem
and is shutting down. I also get a constant error message saying
windows components have been replaced by unrecognizable components,
please insert service pack 1 cd to restore. I insert the cd and
nothing happens. I have done a system restore and the problems
persist. I have reinstalled windows xp and the problems persist.
Does anyone have any insight as to why this is happening or how to fix
this?

Thanks

Contact verizon and ask them to either fix it or give you your money back.
It's called cause and effect.

How about asking the techs at Verizon? Verizon DSL works just fine
around here. It sounds as if you don't have it setup correctly. Even
the slowest option of Verizon is many times faster than dialup.

see if you have somehow gotten spy/malware on your system, use
adaware/hijackthis/spybot S&D/spyware blaster.
just installing DSL drivers shouldn't do this, however it could be the cause
also some kinds of virus do this.. do you enable the firewall or use a third
party firewall??

I have an adware gold program and I ran it after all this. It found
16 iinfections and quarantined and deleted them. I also ran a MCaffee
scan from the website and it was going for around 3 hrs. It must have
found over 2000 viruses in different files. Again they were fixed
quarantined or deleted. After all that my computer still is trashed.
I disabled antivirus software and the firewall prior to installation,
but re-enabled them post installation. It isn't just DSL though.
Even when my computer isn't plugged into the modem the processor or
hard drive is still cranking at full speed, I get constant windows
error messages, and it is slow, not exaggerating it takes about 2
minutes to open a 30Kb excel file. I guess I am going to have to bite
the bullet and take it to a computer tech and spend a stack of $$$ to
fix it. I just find it interesting that the computer worked fine and
fast with no errors prior to installing that verizon CD.
