Windows XP is confused

for some reason, my windows xp thinks its win95, everything
is normal except for that I can't run Java, it crashes my
browser, so when I uninstalled Java, it wouldn't let me
reinstall it. It tells me that I don't have the right
platform. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix
it save rebooting the whole dang system?

To verify your version, go to Start/Run and type in: wjview

MS JVM Version 3809

If this is not the issue:
Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 msjava.dll
