Sun Java / MS VM in XP Home ?

Can anyone help me sort out my Java, I think there may something wrong with
it.
I have a reasonably recent version of Sun Java installed, and that seems
okay.
But, AGES ago, I found that some web pages wouldn't load, and installed some
"other" type of Java, I think it was the MS VM thing, then those "other" web
pages loaded okay. ...I'm wondering if that was a previous Windows platform
I had in my machine b4 I rebuilt it. It now has XP Home in it.

How do I tell if I have the MS VM installed if I need it, ..I'm sure I read
in here, in the past, that one has to have the two Java's installed.

In IE, tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab.
You should have Java (Sun) ticked and JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled.

If you start - run the command
WJView
it will tell you the version of the MS Java that is present - if one is.

If the number is earlier than build 3810 (5.00.3810) you should go to
windows update for the 816093 'critical security update' which is
effectively a complete build, 3810

If it does not run, You can still get a 3805 or 3809 build from some
sites that are *not* MSoft sites - and MSoft is not going to object.
eg 3805 from Http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/msjavx86.exe

The Sun Java puts an applet in Control Panel, that on a Browser page
allows you to set that version as the engine to use by default for
either IE or Netscape. The Opera browser also comes with the Sun Java,
so one way or another you can ensure that you have either available if a
specific variant is needed
