Clicking on Sun Java Console in IE causes IE Shutdown

Hello:

I have Java J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 installed on Windows XP
Pro.

When I clcik on the Sun Java Console in IE 6 under Internet options, IE 6
shuts down and the error report produced below appears on my desktop.

the same happens when I click on the download Java at the Sun Java website
for this program download.

How can I reenable Sun Java?

Any suggestions?
