Does anyone know of a way to do a trouble free repair of IE 6 on an XP box?
And please don't recommend the solution Microsoft suggests by changing the
registry to fool the OS into thinking IE is not installed because that
method is buggy and does not work. The Java is broke on this particular
machine and I cannot get certain websites that load java applets to load
properly. I've tried downloading and installing the latest JVM, checked all
security settings, checked Java settings, everything looks good. Even tried
Sun's Java. Any ideas would be appreciated.

i don't know for sure, but maybe xplite? www.litepc.com

they claim that their software can be used to repair xp components as you
can completely remove and then add a given component again. like new!

might be worth looking into

Sun sued MSoft, and the ruling in the case prohibits MS from making
'their' engine available as a download
You can still get a 3805 or 3809 build from some sites that are *not*
MSoft sites - and MSoft is not going to object.
eg 3805 from Http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/msjavx86.exe

Now delete the following from Windows\system32
Wjview.exe
jview.exe
msjava.dll
and the four java*.dll files

(This is not a complete uninstall, but after it you should be able to
run the download to reinstall)

Once you have such an older version you can get the 816093 'critical
security update' which is effectively a complete build, 3810
