Hi,
I have bought a new PC and was trying to install windows XP Home edition
version 2002. The installation started properly but after reaching the
'install devices' the installation hangs and doesn't proceed further. I left
the system for 3 hrs but still it hanging at the same place. Please let me
know if you have any thoughts/pointers regarding how to solve this problem. I
have connected only keyboard, mouse, monitor to the system. The power
connection is through APC UPS. The processor is P4 2.4 GHZ with 256 MB DDR
and 80 GB Hard disk ( i have partitioned it into 40 GB and 35 GB and using
the 40GB partition for the installation )

Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

regards
sun

Check for an update to the version of the BIOS on your mother board (usually from the manufacture's website)

Try going into the BIOS setting of the computer and disabling the USB support.

Once XP is installed, and you have put the latest service pack on it, you can re-enable USB.

You could also remove all non essential hardware, like network cards, sound cards, modems, just keep the bare minumum to start the PC,
and try the setup again.

Hi All,
Thanks a lot for the tips/suggestions. Finally i could get around the
problem. The trick was I just pressed 'escape' button when the system was
hanging and it started progressing again. Finally i could install XP
successfully.

thanks again
