Windows XP Install Freezes At Same Point In Install

George

I am upgrading Windows ME to Windows XP Pro. During both
the upgrade option and the total install option the
computer screen clicks off temporarily and comes back to
the Windows XP install screen. A few seconds later the
computer freezes and stops installing Windows XP. This is
always during the Installing Files process with about 34
minutes left on the install.

Anyone have any solutions? Thanks for your help.

Hi!

I would thin ki might be a BIOS issue. Try upgrading the BIOS and try
restarting the setup. I had the same problems with upgrading from W2k on a
couple of computers...

Check the bus speed setting on the motherboard. I went
thru weeks attempting to install XP and W2K, but crashed
consistently with L1/L2 enabled in the bios. Went to JP2
[L4VXA2 motherboard,400 FSB/ Celeron 2.66 GHz] and changed
the jumper from 'Auto' to 533. Now the system flies, no
BSOD.

I'm having the same problem, but I can't get out of setup. I've tried opting F2 to system restore, booting from CD, and choosing the option to install another version of Windoz, but It keeps going back to the install screen. When I restart without the XP Pro CD, it asks for it and won't let me back out of the installation.
Any one have any thoughts on this????
Thanks

Sounds like this happens in the Video test section
Can you give some details regarding your video card?

I just checked all the documentation that came with the laptop and I don't find anything I think might be useful...and since I can't get past the "set-up loop"...It has nvidia graphics. I'm a MAC person...and I don't know a lot about windoz hardware brands. It's a new laptop running a pent. 4 M, with 512R, 40G HD, bluetooth, wireless card, dvd/cd/r-rw combo. Runn Windows XP home...but I need the capabilities of the pro pkg...or so I thought. Beth
