Windows XP Home startup options

After an unsuccessful upgrade from Win XP Home to Win XP Pro, I now have 3
startup options:

Windows XP Home
Windows Recovery Console
Windows XP Professional Setup

The Windows XP Professional Setup option (which is automatically selected)
goes to a BSOD with a Stop: 0x00000024 error - I have tried removing
antivirus, chkdsk, etc. but can't get past the stop error.

Windows XP Home boots and works fine. I have tried removing the Pro Setup
option via MSCONFIG but it is replaced with a Windows (default) option that
remains automatically selected and boots to the BSOD stop: 0x000024 error if
I don't catch it and change to the Home option during reboot.

I want to either complete the Pro upgrade (preferred) or remove the startup
option.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The list is governed by display list of operating systems option (Start ->
Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab -> Startup and Recovery -> Settings)

Good Luck!

Tried it - when I delete the Windows XP Pro setup option a Windows (default)
option appears and still boots to the stop: 0x00000024 error.

How can it be a corrupted disk when chkdsk doesn't find any errors and the
WIn XP Home option boots without a problem? The only solution I saw on this
page (which I had already visited before posting my problem) was running
chkdsk and updating drivers for the hard drive. Am I missing something?
