My PC has windows XP home sp 1 on it , when I boot it it goes to a welcome
screen , but all my users are gone and only the user name of "user" is there
, when you click on this it goes into a cycle of log off and savng settings
etc then back to the login welcome screen , I have tried ctrl + alt and del x
2 to get administrator user , still cant log in .

Any one any ideas , driving me nuts :-)

Try Last Known Good Configuration from the Safe Mode menu. Restar the
computer and tap the f8 key repeatedly as it restarts to get the safe
mode menu.

From the safe mode menu can you get into Safe Mode with Command Prompt?
If so try running system restore from the command prompt:

Type in:
C:\Windows\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

That should bring up the system restore dialog box. Choose a date
before the problem happened.
