Windows XP Home Edition

My question is that a friend of mine has Windows XP Home Edition and several
unauthorized individuals have compromised the password. She asked me how to
change the password and walked her through the steps. I had her go to user
accounts to change the password, but it wouldn't let her change the password.
I'm sure I had her in as the computer administrator. I even tried to change
the password myself with no success. What am I doing wrong. Please advise.

Try having her boot into the hidden Administrator account that is created
when XP Home is setup. Restart the computer and keep tapping the F8 key
until you see a bootmenu. Use the arrow keys to select the option to start
in Safe mode and press the Enter key. The log on screen will show an account
simply called Administrator. It has no password. Log on to it and then go to
the Control Panel->User accounts. You should be able to remove and reset
passwords for her regular accounts there.

How do I get the taskbar (on desktop) to go back down to the bottom, instead
of on the side of my screen?

Put the curser on the task bar and click on the edge of the task bar until
the curser changes to a double ended arrow. Hold the left mouse button down
and drag the bar to the bottom of your screen. Then release the mouse
button.

Although by default the task bar appears on the bottom of the screen,
it can be on any of the sides you prefer it on. To move it from any
side to another, simply click on an unused part of it and drag it
where you want it. Be sure to click *within* it, not on the edge;
clicking on the edge and dragging will resize it.

If it won't move, it may be locked. In that case, right click on it
and uncheck "Lock the taskbar," then try again.
