I had to recover my mom's XP Home system. I created an account for her
as an administrator and installed everything she needs (I also created
an admin account for myself). If I now change her account to limited,
should everything still run ok? If something is broke, can I change her
back to an administrator? Will things then behave the same as before?

YES everything should run as it should and you can revert her back to an
administrator whenever you want to without any side effects.

I am assuming you have used default settings and this means you have
installed all the applications for use by everyone on the system
including limited users.

She can't install any new applications but this is not serious. Also,
she may not be able to install new printer drivers or use some external
devices like USB modem/DVD drives etc or external HD if drivers are
required.

Great. I don't want her to be able to install new applications/drivers
(I think this is what may have gotten her in trouble in the first
place).

I am not certain I have installed all the applications for use by
everyone ... but I did install them from her soon-to-be limited account.
If I did not install them for use by everyone, will I run into problems?

Since she has been running as an admin, I would advise doing a check
for malware and viruses.

You should never connect to the internet as an admin nor would I
advise reading mail either.
