Account problem

My daughter was trying to create a profile for her brother, and apparently
deleted hers.
The only accounts that shows up were the new one, and guest.

So I tried system restore, that is not an option as I get an error message
whenever I try to start it.
So I went into safe mode and low and behold, a password box pops up, asking
for her password.
So here profile shows in safe mode, and both hers and the new one she created
are listed as admin, which I suspect is the problem.
I tried changing the user type for the new account, it wouldn't let me.
The option to delete it is not even there.
So I created another account as admin, then it allowed me to delete the one
she created for her brother, but now I am in the same spot, I can't change or
get rid of the new account I created to get rid of the other one.

I rebooted normally, and it didn't ask for a password, started with the new
profile, and her profile once again is nowhere to be seen.
Back to safe mode, once again it asked for her password, and her profile is
there.
I figured I could run sys restore in safe mode but no, same error.

Any suggestions how to get her profile back up and running ?

Hi T-Bone,

For some reason your daughters 'original' account has been
considered by the system to be the 'administrator' account.
In WindowsXP, once you create an additional administrator
account the account that the 'system' considers to be the
administrator account (ie. your daughters 'original' account
is hidden from the log-on screen.

If the computer is running XP Pro, at the logon screen,
press [CTRL]-[ALT]-[Del] twice and she would then be able to
supply her password and log in.

No login screen appears, though I suppose if I put a password on the newly
created account, it would.
The login, complete with her original profile, appears in safe mode, but
not in normal startup.

The simplest solution, is that once she has done that, have
her create a new account for herself with a new name. Once
she has done that, she can log in with the account that she
created for her brother.

She already can log in to that account, it is in fact the only account
option.

once in side of there, have her use Windows Explorer to copy
hr existing 'original' profile to her newly created profile.
Both profiles will be on the boot drive in the 'Documents
and Settings' folder.

If she does not see the documents and settings folder on her
boot drive, then she needs to change her 'folder' options to
show hidden and system files.

So there is no way to delete another admin account once it is created ?

I've seen this happen to a number of people who bought floor
models from stores and the stores had the machine set up to
use the system 'administrator' account. The helpful people
at the store renamed the account and didn't bother to let
the customer know that they were using the primary system
account.

It sounds like you have XP home. Safe mode is the only way of accessing the
administrator account in that version. All the other advice about creating
a new account and transferring the profile stands.

Because she is listed as ADMIN only she can delete her profile???
