I cannot reinstall windows and believe that my CD is faulty does anyone know
wher I might apply to get a replacement.

My computer recognises the disk and carries out the normal inspection of the
computer then when it get to 'Windows Setup' and hangs and will not move
forward.

Any info would be apprciated.

check your cmos/bios settings to
be sure your cd drive is recognized
as a connected hardware device to
the motherboard. Your motherboard/pc
manual can tell you how or you can
see a copy from your pc makers website.

if the cd drive is registered, then set it to
be the boot up device and
boot your windows cd with it.

if you can't boot up, then the
cd drive is probably faulty and you need
a new one. You can buy a replacement
from the people who made your pc or
you can buy one from any computer store
or online, like newegg.com

they are pretty cheap and the new craze
is dvd/cd combinations.

take your computer manual to the store
with you to discuss the options with
the sales associate

keep in mind, that if your cd drive is faulty
then your windows may not to be
reinstalled. Sometimes windows becomes
unstable with a faulty device like a cd....

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware

If it was an OEM license, you should contact the computer's
manufacturer.

Could it be that you have other, hardware-related problems that are
causing the problem? If you're reinstalling Windows to fix some other
problem, this may well be the case.

Start with testing the RAM. You might try MemTest86:
http://www.memtest86.com/ It's free. Then you can download and use the
hard drive maufacturer's diagnostic utility to test the hard drive. If
both RAM and hard drive test out clean, check with the motherboard
manufacturer for any diagnostic utilities.
