Problem with XP Reinstall

I am trying to do a clean reinstall XP SP2 and when the install program
starts it displays "inspecting (or checking) hardware configuration and it
hangs there. I have let it go 10 minutes and not CD activity or HDD activity.
The Install CD is good as I can get it to run after Windows is running. Would
appreciate any information or suggestions.

Just a suggestion (because it happened to me) disconnect any USB devices, or
any other extras you have plugged in & try again.

That was it disconnect my USB devices and it went without a problem. Thanks.
