I did put the restore CDs in but it said that is wrong CD. In fact the Restore CDs has had Window XP home edition . I have to have that XP home edition CD in order to install my Printer .Where or How I can get a Window XP home edition CD ? Hi,

Check the system for an \I386 folder, it will contain the needed system
files for installation. Usually, this folder is under C:\Windows, but it may
be on the root as well.

Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options, and on the View tab, set the options
so you can see hidden and system files. Specifically:

Enable (check) "Display the contents of system folders"
Enable (check) "Show hidden files and folders"
Disable (uncheck): "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)"

I also recommend that you disable (uncheck) "hide extensions for known file
types". You may want to edit the registry so that it points to this folder
as well. Look at the sourcepath string under this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

Change it to match the parent folder housing the \I386 folder.

You need to extract the Windows installation files onto your hard drive or copy them to a CD.

Explore the Restore CDs and identify the folder 'I386'.

Your should then be able to right click and 'extract to..'

If not, ask FRY'S to help you do this.

Regrettably Windows XP OEM: as packaged by Fry's, Toshiba, IBM, HP etc. is prepared in this manner as a matter of convienience, marketing and pricing. The result is that it is quick and easy for you to 'rebuild' the original working state of your PC [the out of box experience]. You have also discovered the drawback. Another limitation of this OEM version is that it cannot be used on an upgraded system [you can't install a new larger capacity hard drive or upgraded motherboard].

But what the heck: you only paid about 1/4 of the full product purchase price.

Another option is for you to go out and buy Windows XP Pro Upgrade - from a retail store.
