Windows XP Home Edition won't shut down

I am having a problem shutting down my computer. When I go to shut it down
it sits on the "Windows is Shutting down" and never shuts down. Does anyone
hane any ideas on how to fix this problem?

How many icons are in your system tray when you boot up. One of them is
not allowing windows to shut down.
