Shut Down Issues

Windows XP pro gets stuck at the shutting down screen....Had some corrupted
memory that was replaced and now the shut down issue has surfaced, Dell says
it was probably because when windows shuts down it always saves the settings
at shut down and if memory was screwed up data that was saved probably is the
problem. When i go into safe mode it shuts down without a hitch. I did some
research on this site and looked at and made adjustments to the registry that
"Thee Chicago Wolf" has posted often as a solution to this problem, it did
not fix the issue.

Barring a reinstall of xp which is where dell is leaning is there anything
else I can try ? (System restore was not a help).

Have a look at your Event Viewer...Apps and System.
You might be able to pin it down.
Almost certainly an Application not releasing properly.

Try downloading and running UPHclean from the
Microsoft site's Search feature. It can often
clean up such issues, or has several times for me
at least.

There is another tool, ntregopt, that I think is
owned by MS now but it's also easy to find with
Google.com. It gets rid of a lot of excess space
and rearranged the sequence of registry loading
for better efficiency. No changes to the registry
are made.

I don't have the links handy: Perhaps a reader
does? I'm sure it'd help the OP.
