Logoff/Shutdown

Hello,

My PC is no longer shuts down the regular way.

At the logoff screen when the window says "Windows is shutting down", it
freezes and no HDD activity at all.

I have to use the power button to shut it down completely, but it means cold
booting at the next startup.

What shell I do to fix this problem?

Thanks

Does your machine refuse to shutoff at shutdown?

This may or may not work depending on whether or not your system
supports APMS. Start regedit, and make your way to
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] and in the right pane look
for the key PowerOffActive. Change the value to 1.

Be careful entering these registry keys in from some sites as they contain
unnecessary clutter

Besides, if like in 'Kelly's Corner' they were exported under SP2 & has
changed under SP3 then you are not just adding to the clutter of useless
entries but maybe changing to an incorrect setting too
