Shutdown and Logoff in start menu don't work

I have a network with 2 servers and 8 workstations. All update automatically
with Windows Update and are using XP 5.1.2600 SP2, Build 2600.

One of my workstations displays the logoff and shutdown options in the start
menu, but will not logoff or shutdown. After pressing one of the options,
the correct dialog box comes up ("Are you sure you want to logoff" or
"Shutdown/Restart/etc."), but nothing happens after completing the dialog box.

So, to shut down, I just push the power button on the box -- NOT my favorite
SOP!

Something on that workstation is failing/hanging and you need to find
out what it is. Here is an excellent shutdown troubleshooter:
