Windows XP Home Edition - Printer problems

I am unable to connect my Printer to my computer. When switched on I get a
balloon message in my taskbar saying that it has found a new printer, then
another message stating found new hardware, Z600 Lexmark series. When I
click on the balloon message re the Z600 Lexmark Series, it says that an
error occurred during the installation of the device, the remote procedure
call failed. After inserting the installation disk for the printer I click
on instal and then it states that the Lexmark Printer Driver Set-up is
preparing the instalshield wizard which will guide me through the set-up
process. I then get a box up saying there is no printer attached, check the
cables are inserted properly, or click next to re-try. I click on re-try and
I then get a message saying there are no valid ports for the driver - unable
to continue installation. When I go into Control Panel and select Printers
and click on add a printer, a box comes up saying operation could not be
completed, the print spooler service is not running. My print spooler
service is enabled, but nothing I try will connect the printer to my system.
My printer was working perfectly fine up until a month ago when I lost my
internet connection and BT had to reboot my system and that is when my
printer stopped working.

Is there anyone out there who could possibly help me here as I just don't
know why the printer is not connecting. For some reason my system seems to
think that there is no printer connected, etc. and I am getting nowhere.
PLEASE HELP ???

As with canon, upon the 1st installation,1st "found new hardware",as the
wizard starts and sets up to install, once its started you should see "If came
with cd install it now",do so,but before you close out the wizard, you need
to go thru the software installation (it should start auto,if not get it to
start
by R.clicking the cdrom in my computer-open),after youre thru with the
install,
close out the wizard. From here, delete all for the printer, once shutdown,conn-
ect to a diffrent usb connection.
