My XP keeps shutting down when I open ANY mdeia files -
mostly happens with real audio or video, but also with
mp3s and windows media files. WHY??? So frustrated -
must fix! Error message is always something
like "Windows has detected a device failure and is
shutting down".

Help.

Hello,

Same problem from a few people in this newsgroup and I'm not sure I can
remember.
When the Operation System occur an error or crash the system will auto
shutdown.

There's a option you can disable the auto shutdown on error

1. Right click on "My Computer" and then click "Properties"
2. Click "Advanced" tab
3. Look down to "Startup and Recovery" and click "Settings"
4. Uncheck the "Automatically restart" on system failure

This might only appear in Windows XP

I hope this will help!
