Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2 Crash

I have a major problem with the new Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2. I
downloaded the first beta about 2 days after it was released, and it
worked beautifully. I loved it. I subscribed to Urge, and I've
downloaded about 350 hours of music. However, I was running low on
space on my internal hard drive, so I bought an external hard drive and
moved all the music files over there. That was about the same time that
the Beta 2 version was released. Everything fell apart after that.

First, Media Player wouldn't launch when I tried to open it normally.
It would seem to start normally, and then it would hang. Even when I
used the task manager to shut down the player, the window would go
away, but the process would still be running in the task manager. That
would also prevent Internet Explorer AND Mozilla Firefox from opening.
If I tried to shut down the computer, then it would lock up (I'm
assuming) trying to close down the crashed Windows Media Player. I
would have to unplug the computer to get it to turn off. About 20% of
the time, when I tried to start Windows back up after the computer was
turned off, the computer would lock up before it would display the
login screen. (My computer has two users, no passwords)

I found that I could work around this by opening Urge from the start
menu, or by opening a music file from its folder. After I started
Windows Media Player this way, it would run fine. I could access Urge,
download music, access my library, it would shut down correctly,
everything seemed to be normal. This worked for a while, then even this
work around stopped working.

Now, whenever I try to start Windows Media Player by clicking on the
icon in the start menu, it crashes. When I try to start it by starting
Urge, it crashes. When I start it by opening a playlist, it opens, but
when I try to access the library, it crashes. When I try to access
Urge, it crashes. Each time that it crashes, I have to unplug my system
and boot up. There's also the chance that it won't boot completely, so
I'll have to unplug it AGAIN, and try to boot up. That gets old after a
while.

So far, I've uninstalled and re-installed Windows Media Player, and
Urge, a couple of times, but it's still broken somehow. I'm thoroughly
frustrated at this point, so any help is very much appreciated.

You might want to post to the windows media player newsgroup.

For reference here is a list of MS public newsgroups

Note that it is Beta software so it should only be used in a test
environment.

That might be so...but version 10 is so buggy, particularly regarding issues
of DRM, that it is a complete and utter embarassment. I cringe when the
only media I can buy works in the Microsoft player.....because half the time
it won't work at all....and the Microsoft site knows about this crippling
problem...it has been under investigation for generations of the player with
no resolution!

What does this have to do with the issue the OP posted about MP11 Beta?

By the way, I could care less what your opinion implied by this snide
question is.

Besides the fact that I can't access the library anymore, which is the
entire reason I downloaded Beta 1, I just realized an even bigger
problem. Since I also can't access Urge from within Windows Media
Player, I can't unsubscribe from my $15 a month charge for a product
that I can't use. Even more importantly, almost all of the music that
I've purchased within the last six months has been from Urge, so once I
rollback to Windows Media Player 10, I won't be able to listen to all
the music that I purchased. I'm sure I can contact Urge customer
service from their website to unsubscribe so I won't be wasting my $15
a month, but I can see this is becoming an even bigger pain than it
already is.

Yes, unfortunately, it sounds like there are some problems for you. Have
you posted to the media player newsgroup?

Brilliant. Go away.

The OP posted an issue that is serious for him. He needs help. What did
your posting a rant about WMP10 do to help him? Look at it from his point
of view. Maybe you will think about the possible impact next time before
posting something.

Q

Quanta

Ok, and what does that have to do with the OP's question about WMP11 Beta?

You are under the erroneous supposition the newsgroups are only focused
singularly on answering specific questions.

Wrong.

Wrong.

If you have a serious problem do you want to hear someone ranting about
their perception of some software that's not even the topic of the post? I
think not. How about giving the OP some help? There is a time and a place
for opinions. This just wasn't one of them. As I said in the other post to
you, think about it from the OPs perspective.
