Windows XP HE Upgrade

After I installed Win XP HE Upgrade package (from Win 98)
I have numerous applications that no longer work; they
wont even load. Among the worst problems I'm having, are:
No sound whatsoever, DVD drive does not work (DNW), CD ROM
drive DNW, CD burner DNW, MultiMedia Drivers do not load
therefore I have no MutiMedia whatsover, IOMEGA Drive DNW,
System crashes very often which never happened before with
Win 98, TV/Radio software DNW, WEB TV DNW, these among
others. I have installed WIN XP HE Upgrade multiple times
expecting for this to somehow resolve the problems, but I
only go back to the same state of problems. Can you all
help me?
Thanks,
David R Abreu

P.S.:My PC is a Gateway Pentium II 450MHz, 1 Gig RAM, 13
Gig HD, came loaded with Win 98 and I upgraded to Win XP
HE Upgrade.

Did you run the Compatibility Wizard as part of the Upgrade?

Did you run the xp compatability wizard before install. Some of these may
not work in XP. Otherwise, you have to update your drivers for your hardware
to XP compatable ones from the hardware makers website if the drivers on the
cd did not work or there were none.

Greetings --

Have you made sure that your PC's hardware components are capable
of supporting WinXP? This information will be found at the PC's
manufacturer's web site, and on Microsoft's Windows Catalog:
(http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx) Additionally, run
Microsoft WinXP Upgrade Advisor to see if you have any incompatible
hardware components or applications.

You should, before proceeding, take a few minutes to ensure that
there are WinXP device drivers available for all of the machine's
components. There may not be, if the PC was specifically designed for
Win98/Me. Also bear in mind that PCs designed for, sold and run fine
with Win9x/Me very often do not meet WinXP's much more stringent
hardware quality requirements. This is particularly true of many
models in Compaq's consumer-class Presario product line or HP's
consumer-class Pavilion product line. WinXP, like WinNT and Win2K
before it, is quite sensitive to borderline defective or substandard
hardware (particularly motherboards, RAM and hard drives) that will
still support Win9x.
