Windows XP Genuine Validation

I upgraded my pc and using the same hdd's, I have to reformat and reinstall
XP on the c:\ drive to accommodate the new hardware. Problem is I can't
validate it right away as everytime I want to validate it online it says that
it cannot connect therefore I should try using the phone validation. During
those times, the microsoft hotline for validation is not available. So I
waited for around 24 hours before I validated my XP over the phone (and it
was validated). Problem was during my 24 hours waiting period the automatic
update updated my version of XP SP1 to SP2 and everytime I log-in under the
user account, a warning on the right lower portion of the page indicates this:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d83/alexabsalom/100_0660.jpg

which states that "This copy of windows must be activated. Windows must be
activated to be eligible for the full range of upgrades and product support
from Microsoft."

Problem is, after validating it, it still shows up on the log-in page. After
I log-in, there's NO more warning like "this is a trial version" or you have
XX days to go to register or validate which means the copy was indeed
validated. I also downloaded that genuine advantage program to verify that my
copy of windows is legal... and I checked it through the site (when I click
"Is this copy of windows legal?") that the cd, product label and key are all
genuine and legal (after all I've been using this copy on my old hdd's
without any problem). What was irritating is that at first I can't install
indexing services and other components of windows because everytime I try it
asks for a missing file under sp2... I worked my way around it by downloading
SP2 and pointed the missing files there, so the XP services are availed now.
It used to be that windows can't detect what my processor is and it's speed
as all it shows up is the physical memory address together with the memory of
my RAM but now it was resolved. But I'm beginning to doubt if there are
anymore drivers or services that windows xp haven't installed on my drive.
Right now everything works ok but the warning on the log-in page still shows
up everytime I sign-in. Is there any other way to verify if the installation
was complete? and is there anyway to remove that warning on the log-in page?
I hate to reformat and re-install xp and other programs again but if this is
the last thing I can do I might do it all over again. Please help. Thank you
very much in advance.

Please go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click Validate Windows -
that should resync the WGA Validation files.

Afterwards, please click Start, then Run, then type in
"WGAtray.exe /b" (without the quotes) and click OK,
then reboot. That should fix it!

It worked! No more "genuine validation" notice at the log-in page. Thanks a
lot Carey. Just one more question if it's not too much to ask, do you think I
encountered an installation problem along the way especially when I wasn't
able to add those windows components and services (e.g. indexing services,
etc., it keeps asking to locate for some missing files on sp2) coz I actually
didn't had windows media player and windows messenger (have to download them
on the site) when I first installed windows among other programs and services
windows xp pro has to offer eventhough I clicked the typical install or was
it just a not so common glitch/bug encountered while installing sp2? Do you
think I need to repair the installation using the windows xp pro with sp1 cd?
Everything's ok right now I just wanted to make sure that I won't be
encountering more problems later if the OS wasn't completely installed right.

Thanks again for al the help.

To be on the safe side, run a System File Check.

1. Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
2. In the Command Prompt window type: SFC /SCANNOW
and hit enter. Have your Windows XP CD available.

After running SFC:

Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
System Information > View > System History

great help! thanks again and again Carey. I did everything except for the
last part Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
System Information > View > System History
where the "system history" option under the drop down menu for view can not
be selected (grayed out)... I guess that's a good thing right? (I hope)...

you've been of good help. I appreciate it a lot (a lot better than the phone
tech customer service of microsoft).
