Windows XP default printing page range - how to change?

Within XP Pro (SP2, all updates), if I click on the Printer icon at the

top of the screen, Windows prints out the entire document - all the
pages, if more than one. If, however, I click on File --> Print, I have

several 'Page Range' choices: 'All' [the default], 'Pages _1_', and
maybe 'Selection' and 'Current Page'.

I would like to modify XP so that it defaults to 'Pages _1_' .

With this modification in place, I could simply click on the Printer
icon and Windows would print the first page of whatever was on the
screen. I do this specific task very often and, as Windows now works, I

must always press File --> Print --> Pages___ --> Print. That's a lot
of mouse movement for a task that I do repeatedly.

How can I change this default? It would be okay if this new default
worked across all applications or even all users on this computer. I'm
the only one who uses the computer and I use this feature so often that

changing the default would not be a problem. Presumably, I could still
select 'All' or another page range choice.

Note: I think Windows XP controls the printing 'Page Range' default,
since the
same dialogue box appears for virtually all applications. But, I could
be wrong - it could be controlled within IE or the specific
application??? I mention Internet Explorer because it is within IE that

I am printing 'Pages _1_' with such frequency.

Umm that's not an "XP" default, that's the setting in whatever application
you are printing from.

Can't do that AFAIK - that's been standard windows application behaviour for
ages. Presu
