windows xp crashes

Hi,

Since this morning one by one all our machines start chrashing.
At one point you can't click on the taskbar anymore and when you do a
ctrl+alt+del and click on taskmanager the whole machine blocks and the only
thing you can do is restart it.

Anybody an idea what the cause could be?

Hi Sofie

Any error messages or Blue Screens - a Stop Code from the latter may help.
Have a look in the Event Viewer for any entries that may point to the
problem.

No blue screen, no stop code, nothing in the event logs.
It's really strange...
This morning there were 5 machines, now about 30...

wild guess, but if all the affected PCs are on a network I'm thinking
virus/worm, or maybe an automatic update gone bad?

i did a virus scan, all virus definitions are up-to-date.
not all the machines are infected (yet)

Somebody in the office installed a virus or trojan.
