Windows XP Crash Blue Screen

Hello,

I am currently getting a blank windows screen with a curser at the top with
nothing else. Cannot ctrl+alt+delete nothing. I have a Compaq 6000 with no
Windows XP disc just a certificate card. I took yesterday to Best Buy to the
geek squad and they were only to tell me that it was a windows crash and that
I needed to reinstall the cd and walk through the steps. They wanted to
charge me $130 after the $68 diagnostic charge. When I got home I did not
notice that I did not have a disc to download into the computer. I do have
my son's computer but it also does not have a disc.

What can I do to get this resolved without having to pay a fortune? I would
like to save my files from my Compaq but I don't think my son's computer will
have enough room on his hard drive to save. Can you direct me on the right
direction to repairing this issue? I see that others have had the same issue
but they have not been resolved. Thanks Christine

It went through Windows screen then went blank with a curser. No matter
what I
try to do to get back into Windows, I keep getting the blank screen. I can't
get back into safe mode except with a black screen with the safe mode heading
at the top and safe mode in all 4 corners. But there are no icons, start
button or taskbar. Is there anything I can do short of a full destructive
recovery again? Is there a way to do a system restore? I can't get into
safe mode with command prompt, either. Can I at least do a nondestructive
recovery if I have to do recovery?

Safe-Mode is a "Black Screen" page,w/o icons & w/o a task bar,youre
selections are in text (4 total),select start xp in safe-mode,enter as
administr-
ator, open event viewer..Or,do you have recovery console available.
