Windows XP Home Crash

I have a computer with Windows XP Home, the other day it froze and when
rebooted it came up with following missing or corrupted
\windows\system32\config\system. I tried to use the Recovery Console, I tried
repairing it, I tried to get it to go into Safe Mode and still everytime I
reboot it goes to the Welcome screen then absolutely nothing just a blank
black screen. It did say that it found one error and repaired it.
Because I have backups I decided to reinstall the Windows. I deleted and
reformatted the partion, it went through the install process normally but it
still goes to the Welcome screen and then blank. However I can now get it to
go into Safe Mode.

if the desktop is the
blank screen you are
referring to, then you
should be able to do
a ctrl alt delete then
from there run new task:
explorer.exe
