Try booting into safe mode. Press and hold the f8 during the boot sequence
until a menu comes. Scroll to and select "Safe Mode" and press enter. After
logging on, logoff and try to log back on normally. Come back if this
doesn't work.

If you can get into safe mode, make copies of any important files that have
not been backed up.

Start tapping F8 just after boot to see if you can to the boot menu. If
you get to the boot menu see if it will start up in Safe Mode. If it boots
to Safe Mode then it's time to start tshooting to find the problem.
