XP won't boot

Windows XP starts to boot then goes to black and starts new boot. I've tried
safe start and the other options with no difference. The recovery DVD does
nothing. With auto restart disabled, I get the following:

***STOP: 0x000000ED, (0x89F8B900, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x000000000)

Nothing has worked so far. Can anyone help solve my problem?

Here's an inexpensive trick that sometimes fixes this. Power down, and
attach the drive to another running system, or, reboot with a Linux boot
disk or anything else that recognises NTFS and doesn't lock the drive.

From the root of the drive, delete the hidden/system file "pagefile.sys".
You may also want to delete "hiberfil.sys". Empty the wastebasket, put the
drive back in its place, and reboot. The first boot may be slow and you
may have to power off, then on again.

I've used this a number of times to successfully restart systems that behave
the way you describe.

Background information on Stop error code

0x000000ED: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
The kernel mode I/O subsystem attempted to mount the boot volume and it
failed. This error also might occur during an upgrade to Win XP on
systems that use higher throughput ATA disks or controllers with
incorrect cabling. In some cases, your system might appear to work
normally after you restart.
