Windows XP bad icons

Almost all desktop icons have the Word icon picture and I
am unable to change the icon pic. Also, clicking on
several desktop icons tries to launch the file in Word.
Please help.

I am having exactly the same behaviour: All shortcuts on
desktop and in Windows Programs - menu do not work
anymore. File extension .LNK was assigned to Windows
Media Player - that's why on my computer Media Player was
loaded when double-clicking on icon. After removal of LNK
program association to Media Player, all shortcuts do
still not work.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Is profile corrupt or something?try logging with different username .
