I have a laptop that used to have a hd w/ windows 98.
My home pc has win xp
then I bought a bigger hd for my laptop, removed the old hd and
installed the new hd w/ win xp.

using an adapter, I tranferred some files from the old laptop hd
containing win 98 (fat32) to my desktop hd. when I hooked up that hd
w/ win 98 format, it asked me to restart the computer, and I did so.
after that it seemed to recognize it and read it without any problem
so I copy some files from the win98 hd to my home pc.

But now that I want to access and use those files, winxp can't open
them.

anything wrong here?

thanks a lot

What kind of files are we talking about here? Are you talking about images,
documents, spreadsheets, or text files; or are you talking about
applications such as Word or Winamp?

FYI, I transfer files from my Windows ME laptop to my Windows XP desktop all
the time without any problems, so far.

I am sorry, I meant adapter. 2.5" to 3.5"

I try to transfer different types of files, jpg, word docs, .exe
installation programs, and so on.

However, the other gentleman kind of answered my question as he
transfer files form w98 to xp all of the time.

Actually I could read/open some files and others not. Sop unless there
are some setting I need to do, the problem may be a problem with the
connection/wiring or the w98 hd itself.

Another way of tranferring is to network the pc to the laptop w/ the
w98hd and tranfer all I need then reinstall the new hd w/xp in the
laptop and copy such files.

any tips greatly appreciated, specially the networking ones as i never
have done that before.

thanks
