no drive letter assigned for UBS HD enclosure

System - Win XP home

I have a 20G system HD from an old Win 98 machine where I am trying to
retrieve some files. I put the drive in a HD enclosure - USB connection.
When I powered the enclosure up - I see the message "New Hardware etc" - I
see the HD description - "Quantum Fireball etc" - and finally - "your new
hardware is installed and ready for use".

Except -

I cant't see the drive from "my computer".

I look in Admin Tools > Computer Management>Disk management and see it
listed - but in the "volume" column there is no letter assigned - just blank
.. In the other columns it lists :

Partition
Basic
FAT32
Healthy(Active)
Capacity - free space etc

Everything seems normal - except I can't see the contents of the drive.

Any ideas??

While in Disk Managemen, right-click the disk and assign a drive letter.
