Hi to all,

I have a comp (AMD Athlon 1500+ 1.34Ghz, 512 Mb RAM) with 2 partion
(C: - 48.8 GB and D: - 25.6 GB NTFS both) and Windows XP Professional
2000 with Service Pack2. "D" partion has nothig on it. I want to
install other version of Windos on it (Windows 98,ME or even XP - the
same which run's on "C" partion).

It is possible do to that without loosing data on the "C" partion?
How can I do that?
What do I need (system disk or whatever)?

Thank you in advence.

Installing an older version after Windows XP is not recommended and even you
will not be able to run Windows 98 or Windows Me setup within from Windows
XP. Windows will not let you run it.

However, you can install another copy of Windows XP on your D drive without
lossing the data. But keep in mind you have to reinstall each software you
are currently using in second copy of Windows XP and reconfigured everything
again too. May I ask you why you are about to install a second copy of the
same operating system?

However, You have to take some precautions prior to installation. I will
suggest you to take a backup of your data if possible.

Insert Windows XP CD and run the setup. When you are asked for installation
type - choose Clean Installation instead of Upgrade. After restart you will
be asked for the Partition on which Windows to install. Choose D drive and
then you will be ask what do you want to do with D drive. Enter on "Leave the
partitions as it is......". Complete the setup.

Hi RajKohli,

I have some software which are runnig only on Win 2000 or Win Me (I'll
asked for Win Xp to one of my freinds). I am aware of
Virtual PC. What do you think of that? It is a solution for my
problem?

Thank you

I really love Virtual PC. Currently I have two Vitrual Drives. One is old MS
Dos 6.22 and another one is Windows 98.

Before you go for Virtual PC, let me tell you that you need a high end PC
with a maxium amount of RAM. I don't think it will be the best solution.

If you want to dual boot Windows XP with Windows 2000 then you can do this
if you have a Windows 2000 bootable CD. If you want Windows ME with Windows
XP then I will suggest you to install Win ME on C and reinstall your Windows
XP on D drive. However, there are solution available on internet if you want
to install Win ME after Windows XP but it is going much complicated. So my
advise is to take a backup before you start anything. I think booting from
Windows 2000 CD and installing it on D Drive will be the best.

Let us know!

Hi RajKohli,

I installed Virtual PC and it's working great. I put in this virtual
harddisk Win XP (the same XP which is in the "C" partition). The only
problem it is speed (it is somewhat slowly) but I can live with that.
Once the software (one that I want to run) is uploaded everything is
going well. Poor speed apear only at startup and shut down but I
belive that is from small memory.Anyway I am pleased with this
configuration Win XP and Virtual PC it's what I want. Where I can find
more article's about this amazing software (anthing else than MS
website). I don't know yet how I can remove a virtual disk if I have
need to do that. I was so exited to run my application and I never
(yet :>) ) explore the entire capabilities of that PIECE of software.
Great job MS team (I think mr. Bill "earn" - even it is a free soft
corectly money for that).
