WINDOWS WON'T START

I turned my computer on and all I got was a blank screen. The monitor is plugged in, I get start-up graphics, then NOTHING. I turned off the computer to restart it, and then get Windows was not shut down properly meesages. I have tried EVERY option. Nothing seems to work. I get either a list of files (which freezes) or just a blank screen. HELP
 
Sounds like you need to do a repair install, try this:

Did you add any new hardware before the problem if so try taken it out or
disconnect it, failing that carry out the repair install.
