Just upgraded a computer from Windows 98 to XP Professional. I get the XP login screen (XP Home style) and it asks for a password. There should be no password (I didn't set one up) and I get this error:

The system cannot log you on due to the following error: The specified domain does not exist or
cannot be contacted..

We don't have a domain. This is strictly a peer network How do I login? How do I fix this

Have you tried to use administrator with no password? Also click on options and see if another field drops down if it does make sure it says the name of the computer(This Computer) and then try to login with administrator and no password(leave it blank).. Try that,

I got the same thing when I installed XPpro OEM version on a new (clean) computer. Nothing seems to work
Ideas
