How to join a domain when you don't know the local admin account

I have a PC, XP, SP2, that was taken off the domain. User can't login
because he can't remember the password for the local admin account. Is there
anything to be done, or is this a hopeless case. Everything I have read
indicates the only way to join a PC to a domain is to supply creds for a
local admin. Help if you can!

Have you tried giving the account name and password of an ordinary user
account in the domain?

That might work.

Nope, no domain account is going to get you into that work station. Get
ERD Commander and change the local admin password to your standard, then
you'll be right.
