Windows Vista

I'm realy pissed off with Microsoft. I've a new PC - well it's a year old
this month and supposed to be top of the range with Dell - an XPS - but I
find I can't use most of my software as it's not compatable with the
system. The most anoying thing is that no-one tells you this when you buy a
new PC and of course one doesn't think of asking this question or even
contemplating that software you've got won't work.
I've had to buy a new printer, as my Epson CX3200, which I realy like will
not work in Vista although I've downloaded all the drivers I can find for the
printer. Microsoft knows what they're doing but we, the consumer has to fit
the bill by having to buy new programs because a lot of what we have and
which worked in XP will not work in Vista. I had the same problem when
upgrading from Windows ME to XP Pro and what a dredfull system ME was-forever
crashing. The thing I don't understand is that some older programs will run
but not all and some newer ones will run but again not all. I would like to
know from Microsft if I can change my Vista Premium for XP Pro as I can ill
afford to replace all my software or will they compensate me for my loss.
Apart from this, in general, I do not like Vista at all.Give me XP Pro any
day - less trouble, nice system. When I get a new PC it will be an Apple
Mac....

Unfortunately, your programs will not run on a MAC either, and there may not
be drivers for your printers. Your questions and/or may be better answered
in a Vista newsgroup which will be more appropriate to your problem. This
newsgroup is dedicated to the Microsoft Access database product. The
Microsoft website is not all that clear and may have misdirected you.

Most people probably don't know this, but you can run lots of software that
appears, upon first glance, to be incompatible with Windows Vista. The key,
is to go to the start menu to the shortcut that your program is and right
click and select the Compatibility tab. You can then select which OS you
want it to run as compatible with.

Also, several programs which might not run initially need to be set to "run
as administrator" due to registry changes that the program has need of
doing, which under normal installation in Windows Vista does NOT occur
naturally unless you start the install as "run as administrator" as well.
