I have been running my pc since February. All of a sudden it asks me for
the windows validation key!
I enetered this when I set it up. I call the 866 number and go through the
9 sets of digits and it says they can't verify it.
What's going on????

I assume you mean the automated service can't verify it? Have you waited
until you are passed over to a 'real' person so that he/she can guide you
through the process? Activation is an automated service but, if the
automated service is unable to activate your machine, you should be passed
onto someone who can help you activate.

Your going to have to talk to someone at Microsoft. Don't worry, they don't
bite.

If it says it can't validate, wait for the operator, usually they will just
ask, "Is this key installed on any other computer?", say "No" and they
should validate for ya.

As to why it happened. Who knows.

Is this an OEM install of Vista? (System builder or did you buy a new
computer with Vista pre-installed?)

If not, which version are you using? (Mainly just curious)

Thanks, I will give it a try tomorrow when I have more time :) I guess I
was just being lazy and figured tech couldln't help.

This is a HP A1730N HP Pavilion Desktop PC.
I had to do the upgrade, but that's it. I did have to install the key, as
well, and went through the phone automated process in February. It has
Vista Home Premium on it.

yeah, sure, ok ....LOL
i'd rather just buy a new freakin validation key (if that was necessary, but
hopefully i will fix it) :)
but i will not throw this baby into the lake!
